  15. pitcher; for amputation of his left arm and shoulder to
  16. eradicate cancer; in New York City. Operated on in 1988,
  17. Dravecky won national sympathy in 1989 by defeating his doctors'
  18. predictions that he would never pitch again and hurling a
  19. victory against the Cincinnati Reds. But five days later, his
  20. pitching arm snapped and he collapsed on the mound during a game
  21. in Montreal.
